SCVEDC 2016 Annual Report

SCVEDC 2016 Annual Report

2016 was another great year for the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) and as a result, for the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV). With its focus on developing business in the SCV, the SCVEDC delivered again in 2016. Here are some of the highlights from the 2016 SCVEDC Annual Report:

Business Attraction and Expansion

Assisted by the SCVEDC, 31 companies, representing 1,945 jobs, chose the SCV as their new home. 55% of these are in the target industry sectors supported by the SCVEDC. Addressing the space needs for future growth, two new industrial parks broke ground in 2016, and Logix and Scorpion broke ground on their new corporate HQ’s in the SCV. The local tax benefit of Logix’ and Scorpion’s new facilities will exceed $4 million per year!

Business Assistance

Two of the SCVEDC’s goals are to increase retention and enhance the SCV community. Strengthening ties between companies and the SCV is a key tool to achieving these goals, and toward those ends, the SCVEDC made site visits to 101 companies encompassing over 9,200 jobs in 2016. 130 assistance projects were handled, and six (6) industry coalition events held.

Organizational Leadership

The SCVEDC’s board is now at full capacity at 50 members, and its private sector board contributions increased by 15% in 2016, with the private sector contributions matching the public sector’s – making the SCVEDC a true public-private partnership. The SCVEDC received three economic development awards in 2016, including a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for its 2016 “Still Golden” campaign, and a merit award for its design of “4- for 4-“ incentive program, designed to attract new businesses to the Santa Clarita Valley.1 And most significantly, the City of Santa Clarita was named LA County’s Most Business Friendly City!
