Providing vital data and information is just one of the important services and resources that the SCVEDC provides to local businesses. Most prominent of these resources comes from our resident economist, Dr. Mark Schniepp. Every quarter Dr. Schniepp and the SCVEDC publish an Economic Snapshot that updates data on labor force and employment, residential and commercial real estate, hotel vacancy rates, and film activity.

In his Q4 Snapshot for 2022, Dr. Schniepp summarized the labor force and employment trends as mainly positive, but still having areas for improvement. The job creation trend was consistent throughout 2022 and our region created 5,200 jobs in 2022, the most in any year since 2004.

The focus of economic development has expanded over the past months to include talent attraction and workforce development. In todays labor market, companies are doing everything they can to maintain their current staff, while simultaneously competing with other businesses for top talent.

2021 Annual Report

The COVID-19 pandemic brought both health implications and serious economic ones, extending into its second year in 2021 as the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation celebrated its 11th anniversary. The SCVEDC continued supporting SCV businesses as they navigated public health orders, supply chain snarls, hiring challenges and the emergence of inflation. SCVEDC continues to focus on business assistance, business attraction and retention, community marketing, and providing quality information and data. The vast diversity of businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley has established a strong foundation for its future economic security.

As we approach the end of 2021, most of our businesses have re-opened, with events and gatherings restoring slowly but surely. We have come a long way since March 2020, and people are eager to return to as close to a pre-COVID normal as possible. There are unfortunately still lingering problems from the lockdown that continue to be felt. Especially by our local employers. With normal supply chains still facing big delays, it’s more important than ever to support the local businesses and manufacturers in the SCV this holiday season.

The City of Santa Clarita is Ranked One of the Most Business-Friendly in SoCal (Again)

The Kosmont-Rose Institute’s 2018 Cost of Doing Business Survey has again ranked Santa Clarita among the best cities in Southern California.

Walls up at Needham Ranch Phase 1

Trammell Crow Company (TCC) and Clarion Partners, LLC were joined by City officials and community members to officially celebrate the initial raising of the walls for Phase 1 of the highly-anticipated Los Angeles County business park The Center at Needham Ranch. Phase I occupancy is scheduled for Spring 2019.

Learn About Careers in Advanced Technology at SCV's National Manufacturing Day

SCVEDC is excited to be once again co-sponsoring National Manufacturing Day. This year's celebration kicks off with a speaker panel and displays on careers in advanced technologies on Thursday, October 4 from 6 – 8 pm at the College of the Canyons (COC). This event, open to the general public, reveals the lucrative and rewarding potential of careers in design, engineering, fabrication, and more and features several SCV advanced manufacturing companies. Admission and parking are free, but reserve seats HERE.

Dream Team Beaute, Inc. Signs Deal to Relocate to SCV

Sun Valley based Dream Team Beaute, founded in 2014 by Kimberly Clark and Esme Mancia, is relocating their operations to the Santa Clarita Valley. Acquired last summer by Northwest Cosmetic Laboratories, Dream Team is a high-speed, innovative company that manufactures some of today’s most popular and award-winning cosmetic product lines. Their forward-thinking ideas and concepts can be seen throughout the pages of most major fashion publications, earning the respect of peers throughout the beauty and cosmetic professions.

BizFed Poll Ranks Santa Clarita as LA County's Most Business Friendly Location

The annual BizFed poll represents a snapshot of key issues of concern in the Los Angeles County business community. The BizFed Pulse Poll was first taken in 2008, and has for a decade asked BizFed Member associations about issues they deem most critical to the ongoing operation and growth of their business. This year, the BizFed poll received 710 responses from business leaders in more than two dozen industries throughout Los Angeles County.

Big Changes Ahead for the Santa Clarita Business Incubator

Designed to stimulate economic growth through entrepreneurship and enterprise development, the Santa Clarita Business Incubator is celebrating a significant milestone—graduating the first two participating companies from the program! FDA Approves Investigational Device Exemption for SetPoint Bioelectronic Therapy Clinical Study in Rheumatoid Arthritis

SetPoint Medical, a clinical-stage biomedical technology company developing an implantable bioelectronic medicine therapy for chronic inflammatory diseases, has received Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) approval from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate a pilot trial in the U.S. for patients with drug refractory rheumatoid arthritis (RA). SetPoint’s proprietary bioelectronic device will be surgically placed on the vagus nerve and activated based on a predetermined dosage schedule to evaluate safety and efficacy.

Construction on The Center at Needham Ranch Begins

Trammell Crow Company (TCC) and Clarion Partners have begun construction on The Center at Needham Ranch, a 54-acre, state-of-the-art industrial business park in Santa Clarita, CA. The project is the first phase of a larger 132-acre, fully entitled site approved for up to 4.2 million square feet of Class A industrial space. Phase 1 is expected to begin deliveries during the Q3 2018. A ceremonial groundbreaking event is being held on December 12 that was attended by public officials, the development team and other parties.

IAC Commerce Center Celebrates the Completion of Phase 1

CBRE and IAC Properties announced the completion of the first phase of the new nine-building 1.3 million square-foot IAC Commerce Center in Valencia, California, one of the largest commercial projects in the region. As the three-building Phase1 is completed, CBRE and national developer IAC Properties welcome two tenants -- Accurate Freight and Covercraft -- to the state-of-the-art project situated in North Los Angeles County.

America’s Job Center of California - a great resource for local companies and job seekers

SCVEDC knows that finding skilled workers is one of the toughest challenges facing businesses in today’s tight labor market. That’s why training and apprenticeship programs are so important. Companies are growing their own talent, but are tapping into resources such as community colleges and the workforce development boards that are part of the public workforce system. In the past year, new apprenticeship programs for the aerospace and logistics industries are helping employees advance their skills quickly.

Pharmavite Makes Long Term Commitment to Santa Clarita

Pharmavite LLC, the leading manufacturer of dietary supplements for more than 45 years, has renewed its commitment to the Santa Clarita Valley by entering into two new leases! To support the operations of its growing Nature Made^® brand of vitamins and mineral supplements, the company has signed a new long-term lease for a 229,000 square feet distribution and warehouse facility in the Valencia Commerce Center. It also deepened its roots in the Santa Clarita Valley by renewing the lease for its existing packaging facility located on Witherspoon Pkwy. Both leases run through 2030.

Recruiting great talent gets more challenging every day. As noted recently by Bisnow, “Today’s young talent is much more concerned with a city’s lifestyle offerings than its job market. This shift in priorities has forced companies to follow the talent, investing millions in office development and expansion in the country’s leading and secondary markets — a trend that is growing in prevalence as the labor market tightens and young talent becomes more scarce.

2016 was another great year for the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) and as a result, for the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV). The 2017 Santa Clarita Economic Outlook Conference

Each year, the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) and College of the Canyons (COC) host the Spring release of the Santa Clarita Economic Outlook Forecast at the Santa Clarita Economic Outlook Conference. Mark Schniepp, Director of the California Economic Forecast, and Mark Vitner, Managing Director, Senior Economist at Wells Fargo, this year’s featured economists, will provide an in-depth forecast of our national and local economies, as well as discuss global megatrends. They will be joined by one more speaker (to be announced). This is the only event of this kind with information specific to the Santa Clarita Valley.
